Guardiola Cool As City Lose At Spurs
Pep Guardiola insists Manchester City’s Champions League defeat at Tottenham is not a disaster and there is still all to play for. Spurs edged the first leg of the quarter-final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 1-0 thanks to Son Heung-min’s strike 12 minutes from time, which now put them in the box seat.
City had their chances and for once Sergio Aguero failed to deliver when missing from the penalty spot. However Guardiola is refusing to be downbeat and says City know what they have to do to turn the tie around at the Etihad Stadium.
“It’s not the best result but not the worst one.” Guardiola explained. “You know in this competition when you want to go through into the last stages you have to make these kind of comebacks. “You don’t expect to arrive in a semi-final or quarter-final first leg we are going to win 0-3, that is a reality – it happens to many teams in many situations, but we have another option, another chance and that is the point.
“The second leg will be tough but we know what we have to do: score goals, play as well as possible and we’re going to try.” On Aguero’s penalty miss, Guardiola added: “Next time we will score. Now we have to prepare for Crystal Palace. We do not have time to think about Tottenham.”
