Gunmen Abduct Two Catholic Nuns In Anambra
Two Catholic nuns, Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli, were abducted by gunmen on Tuesday along Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Osun Defender learnt that the nuns were returning from a vocational association meeting in Ogboji community when they were kidnapped. Sister Vincentia Nwankwo serves as the Principal of Archbishop Charles Harvey Memorial Model Secondary School, Ufuma, while Sister Grace Okoli is a teacher at Immaculata Girls Model Secondary School, Nnewi.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Maria Ikeotuonye, Secretary-General of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, confirmed the incident and called for prayers for their safe return.
“With sadness, we write to inform the general public of the kidnap of our two sisters, Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli,” Ikeotuonye stated. “We commend our sisters to the powerful intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary for their speedy release and solicit your fervent prayers.”

The Anambra State Police Command also confirmed the abduction. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga announced that a joint operation is underway to rescue the victims.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, along with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, has visited the scene for a spot assessment,” Ikenga revealed. “We are following some leads to ensure the suspects are apprehended and the victims rescued.”
The police assured the public of ongoing efforts and promised to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
