A gang of armed robbers on Saturday reportedly attacked a hotel in Ode-Omu, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State, carting away valuables belonging to guests and the hospitality facility before being intercepted in a gun duel by operatives of the Osun State Amotekun Corps.

Spokesperson of the corps, Yusuf Abass, in a statement on Tuesday, said the hoodlums stormed the hotel in the early hours of the day, dispossessing guests of a Toyota Matrix vehicle worth about N7 million and six LG 42-inch television sets estimated at over N3 million.

According to him, the lodgers, who were said to have travelled from Lagos to attend a funeral in the area, immediately lodged a complaint at the Amotekun Command in Ayedaade.

“Acting swiftly on the distress call, operatives of the Amotekun Corps from both the local and state commands commenced a coordinated tracking operation,” Abass stated.

The pursuit reportedly culminated in a gun battle at Ogere, Ogun State, where the armed gang was confronted by Amotekun officers, with support from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogere Unit.

Abass revealed that the heated exchange forced the robbers to abandon the stolen vehicle and other items in a nearby bush before fleeing the scene, with some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun, Brigadier-General Bashir Adewinmbi (retd), through the Operations Commander, Olagunju Joseph, confirmed the recovery and lauded the operatives’ courage and professionalism in recovering the stolen items without casualties.

He said, “This recovery shows Amotekun’s firm commitment to ensuring that criminals have no hiding place in Osun State. We’re grateful for the collaboration with FRSC Ogere Unit in securing this success.”

At the Corps Headquarters in Osogbo on Monday, the recovered vehicle and electronics were formally handed over to their owners. One of the victims, Mr Olanrewaju Omololu, expressed appreciation for the swift action of the corps.

“They did not demand a dime from us. The way they handled the matter shows they are deeply rooted in the grassroots and committed to the people’s safety,” he said.

Another victim, Mr Oyelami Nurudeen, also commended the operatives, urging Osun residents to continue supporting the agency in its efforts to rid communities of criminal elements.

While reiterating the corps’ zero-tolerance stance on crime, Omoyele urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements within their vicinity, adding that community security must be a joint effort.

He said, “Osun Amotekun will continue to work round the clock to secure the lives and property of our people. This is our mandate, and we will not relent.”relent.”
