Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted an unspecified number of passengers along the Akure-Ikere highway at the weekend.
It was gathered that the incident occurred between Iju and Ikere-Ekiti when the kidnappers attacked the vehicles the passengers were travelling in.
At the scene of the incident, two vehicles, identified as a Toyota Corolla and a white Toyota Highlander, were discovered abandoned with none of the occupants present.
The two vehicles had been riddled with bullets upon discovery by other travellers.
According to sources, after the attack on the two vehicles, the travellers were moved into the forest around Iju by their abductors.
Rhe spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Funmi Odunlami confirmed the incident in a statement.
Odunlami stated that the command was unable to ascertain the number of people involved.
She explained that the anti-kidnapping unit swiftly responded to the incident and has been conducting a thorough search within the Iju forest.
Odunlami added that no official reports had been received from the families of the owners of the two vehicles, and there were no reports of missing individuals in the state.
