Gunmen have abducted a United Nations (UN) official in Jos North LGA of Plateau state.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, identified the UN employee as Emmanuel Sabo, aged 45.

It was gathered that Sabo was reportedly abducted on Saturday night while returning home from work.

The publication said the incident occurred along Godwin street in the low-cost area of Jos North.

Ezekiel, Sabo’s younger brother, reported the incident to the police on Sunday morning.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Command Control Room promptly disseminated the information to all patrol units and checkpoints across the state,” Zagazola cited security sources as saying.

Police operatives were said to have intercepted Sabo’s vehicle on Sunday morning in Manguna, Bokkos LGA after launching a stop-and-search duty.

A search operation to locate the abducted UN official and to apprehend the perpetrators is under way.

Alabo Alfred, the Plateau police command spokesperson, while speaking said, “I have not received such report so I cannot confirm.”
