THERE was heavy gunshot at Old Garage, Osogbo, State of Osun yesterday when some hoodlums attacked officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the officers had trailed a suspected drug dealer in a white commercial bus to a garage at Ojurin axis of the Old Garage.
According to eye witnesses, the NDLEA officers accosted the suspect immediately he entered the motor park and arrested him.
On sighting the officers, some hoodlums believed to be members of the notorious Asiri Eniba gang, confronted the operatives and attacked them with broken bottles, cutlasses and guns.
The NDLEA officers, according to the sources, engaged the hoodlums in gun duel, which lasted for about seven minutes.
In the process, the suspect reportedly escaped with handcuffs, while the hoodlums also fled.
The incident happened around 3:30pm.
One of the NDLEA officers confirmed the report.
According to him, the NDLEA operatives were shot at while trying to arrest a suspected drug dealer inside the motor park.
He said the suspect had been arrested and handcuffed before the hoodlums attacked them and allowed the suspect escape.
It was gathered that about five people were injured in the shootout and were taken to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.
The national Director of Media and Advocacy of the Agency, Mr. Femi Babayemi confirmed the incident.
