Some protesters calling for the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, have been arrested by security operatives in Abuja.

The protesters, led by Human Rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, had converged for the peaceful protest for the release of Kanu.

In a video circulating online, Sowore and others were seen scampering for safety after gunshots by some of the security operatives on the ground.

He wrote, “Nigerian police firing teargas non stop around Transcorp, Federal Secretariat and Villa. They have blocked the entire roads leading to Aso Rock.”

Providing an update in a post on his X account, Sowore said the police arrested Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor and some innocent bystanders.

He added that “They were beaten and taken to the FCT command.”
