Hajj Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Indonesia Over Bomb Threat
A Saudia Airlines flight carrying 442 hajj pilgrims from Jeddah to Jakarta made an emergency landing in Indonesia on Tuesday following a bomb threat.
Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation said the threat was received via email at 7:30 am local time, warning of a plot to “blow up” flight SV 5276.
The aircraft, which had 207 men and 235 women on board, was diverted to Kualanamu International Airport in Medan around 10:00 am after the pilot assessed the situation.
“In response to identified security and safety threats, the pilot decided to divert the flight to the nearest airport,” said Indonesia’s airport operator, InJourney Airports.
Upon arrival, the airport was evacuated, and a bomb disposal unit was deployed to inspect the aircraft.
A transport ministry official confirmed that the plane remained in Medan as investigations continued. Flight tracking platform Flightradar24 also showed the aircraft stationed in the city.
