Herdsmen Destroy Crops Worth Millions In Anambra

Tension began in Anambra state after herdsmen’s invasion of cattle into farm lands destroying crops and other farm produce worth millions of naira.

The traditional ruler of the Anaku community, Igwe Peter Oforkansi narrated how the herdsmen lead their cattle to graze on their crops, destroying their farm land.

The majority Leader of the Anambra State Legislature, Chief Victor Okoye, who drew the attention of state Government to the menace of Fulani Herdsmen in Anambra East, West and Anyamelum local government areas.

Following this tensed mood, the Fulani Cattle Breeders in Anambra State have been charged to always respect the custom and tradition of their host communities.

The South East Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association Alhaji Gidado Sidiq gave the charge when he visited one of the camps of the herdsmen in the State at Aguleri in Anambra East Local government area.

Addressing the Fulani Cattle breeders, Alhaji Sidiq said that the visit became imperative due to the recent clashes and uprising between the herdsmen and their host communities in some parts of the country, charging them neither to destroy crops, nor work against the custom and tradition of their host communities in Anambra State.

Alhaji Sidiq, who is the leader of Fulani community in the State commended Ndi Anambra for their hospitality which he said has entrenched peaceful coexistence between the herdsmen and their host communities.

Alhaji Sidiq, assured that any crop damaged by the Fulani herdsmen in the state will be duly paid for and extolled Governor Willie Obiano for running an all inclusive government which he said has made them to feel at home and assured that they will sustain the cordial relationship between them and Ndi Anambra at all times.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has warned Fulani Herdsmen coming into the state to acquaint themselves with the laws enacted to govern their operations so as not to disrupt the peace thriving in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar, gave the warning when he led a joint team of Security operatives and the State government officials on a fact finding visit to Coscharis Farm, Anaku, where Fulani Herdsmen invasion was recently reported.

Coscharis Rice Farm, a multi-billion dollar Agro-investment sits on about two thousand, eight hundred hectares of land which situates at Anaku in Ayamelum Council Area and has the capacity to do all year round rice planting due to irrigation services.
