House Of Reps Declares 2 Lawmakers’ Seats Vacant

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday declared two seats vacant in the House.

The Speaker declared both seats vacant at the plenary after their formal resignation letters were read during a plenary.

The former occupants of the seats were: Hon. Tanko Sunono, who represented Yauri/Shanta/Ngaski federal constituency of Kebbi State, while Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, represented Akoko North East and Akoko North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State.

The two former lawmakers were nominated and screened as ministers by President Bola Tinubu and have since commenced their duties in their respective ministries.

Sunono was appointed the Minister of State for Education, while Tunji-Ojo was made the Minister of Interior.

To this end, the Speaker directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organise bye-elections for the respective constituencies.

This declaration brings the total number of vacant seats in the House to four.
