House of Reps Declares Idahosa’s Seat Vacant
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has officially declared Denis Idahosa, deputy governor of Edo State, vacant.
Idahosa, who represented the Ovia Federal Constituency in the House, transitioned to his new role after being elected deputy governor in the September 21 governorship election.
He was sworn into office on November 12, 2024.
The decision to declare the seat vacant was announced during Wednesday’s plenary session.

The Speaker read a letter submitted by House Leader Julius Ihonvbere, which called for the commencement of the process to elect a replacement to represent the people of Ovia.
With Idahosa’s seat now vacant, the House currently has four unoccupied seats.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be responsible for conducting fresh elections to fill these vacancies.
This development is in line with constitutional provisions mandating that no constituency be left without representation in the National Assembly.
