How Arrested LG Chairman ‘Plotted’ To Assassinate Benue Speaker – Police

A Local Government Chairman in Benue State has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force over an alleged assassination plot on the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Hycenth Dajoh.

The chairman and one other person were arrested through the diligent efforts of its operatives.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Monday, noted that preliminary investigations revealed that the Local Government Chairman allegedly contracted a militia with the sinister intention of eliminating the Speaker.

ACP Adejobi explained that the operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) – swiftly swung into action upon receiving credible intelligence regarding the planned assassination.

According to him, both suspects are currently in police custody and are actively cooperating with investigators in the ongoing inquiry.

Adejobi said the arrested suspects would face the full weight of the law and assured the public of the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining law and order, and prevention of crimes at all levels.
