The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have denied viral reports that the Deputy Inspector-general of Police in charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department, DIG Joseph Egbunike, slumped and died in his office at the Force Headquarters.
The NPF said the senior police officer had health issues which took him to the National Hospital in Abuja where he later died on Tuesday.

Acting Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who took to his verified Twitter handle, @Princemoye1, on Wednesday to debunk the report that Egbunike slumped and died in his office, added that the deceased was a great asset to the Nigeria Police.

Adejobi wrote, “The late DIG Joseph Egbunike did not slump nor die in the office contrary to the news making rounds. He had health related issues and went to the national hospital abuja where he later died.

“I need to clarify this. We have lost a great asset in the Nigeria Police family. RIP.”

Before his death, DIG Egbunike headed the Nigerian Police Force Panel which investigated the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, over the latter’s indictment by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

He had a BSc in Accounting from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). He went further to obtain a Bachelor of Law, a Master’s in International Relations and a PhD in Criminology.
