How My Daughter Was Bullied During NYSC – Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday opened up about his daughter’s experience with bullying during her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp.

The governor revealed this during an address at the passing out ceremony of the current batch of NYSC members at the Lagos State Orientation Camp.

Makinde, whose daughter was among the corps members, shared that she had been bullied during her stay at the camp.

He recounted telling her, “Welcome to the real world where there is no protection, and you have to do whatever it is that they are doing out there.”

Despite her initial reluctance to stay beyond one night, his daughter eventually spent the full three weeks and ultimately enjoyed the experience, according to the governor.

Expressing his gratitude to the camp officials for their hospitality towards his daughter, Governor Makinde used the experience to highlight the challenges young people face as they transition into adulthood.

He noted that such experiences help build resilience and prepare them for the real world, which often requires overcoming obstacles and adapting to difficult situations.

In his broader message to the corps members, Makinde urged them to take their national service seriously, using the opportunity to build a strong foundation for their future.

The governor concluded by encouraging the youth to remain confident despite the challenges Nigeria is facing.

He assured them that these difficulties would be surmounted in due course, and their generation holds the key to the nation’s future progress.
