Popular Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has recounted how her pregnancy affected her vocal performance while recording her second studio album, R.E.D.

Speaking in a recent interview with Afrobeats Intelligence, the award-winning artiste described the experience as a struggle, disclosing that the physiological changes she went through during the pregnancy made her more emotional and impacted her vocal range significantly.

“I was pregnant when I worked on R.E.D. I would be in the studio crying in the corner with my big belly.

“I had to change the key of some of the songs on the project because being pregnant affected how I could hit some notes. It was a struggle to record the album, and I was very emotional,” She said.

The Somebody’s Son crooner revealed that Don Jazzy, the founder of Mavin Records, where she was signed at the time, played a crucial role in helping her through the demanding process.

She said he ensured her energy levels were maintained by meeting her pregnancy cravings.

“I was the first person to have a baby in Mavin, so they would get me what I used to crave, which was eggs and bread.

“As soon as they noticed my energy was going down, Jazzy would get them to get me my cravings,” she added.

Tiwa Savage, who joined Mavin Records in 2012, was one of the label’s frontline acts before exiting in 2019 to sign a global deal with Universal Music Group.

She recently revealed that she “shamelessly” asked Don Jazzy to sign her when he floated the label.
