Nigerian comedian and actor, Bovi Ugboma, has said he supports divorce in situations where marriages become unhealthy, noting that it is better for couples to part ways than remain in relationships that make them unhappy.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Morayo Show, Bovi said he views divorce as a positive outcome when it allows individuals to escape unhappy or suffocating unions.

“I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage. I will not suffer anybody, nor will I want anybody to suffer me,” he said.

The comedian clarified that his stance should not be seen as a disregard for the institution of marriage, stressing that every relationship comes with its own challenges.

Reflecting on his personal life, Bovi revealed that his 17-year marriage has faced its share of difficulties.

“That is not to say my marriage has been easy for 17 years. It has not. I got married at 29. I have been providing for 17 years nonstop,” he said.

He also addressed the traditional expectation that men should be the primary providers in their homes, while encouraging women to pursue their goals and attain financial independence.

According to him, women who are motivated to contribute financially to their households deserve recognition and appreciation for their efforts.

“If a woman’s passion drives her to provide, her contributions should be recognised and respected,” he added.
