Actress Lizzy Anjorin has broken her silence following the controversy surrounding gospel singer Tope Alabi’s refusal to perform at her surprise birthday party.

In a video circulating on social media, Lizzy expressed her admiration for Tope Alabi’s music but made it clear that she doesn’t need the singer to celebrate her.

“Tope Alabi, I love you, I love your music, but I don’t need you. What do I need you for?” Lizzy said, addressing the ongoing drama.

She further stated that if the roles were reversed, she would have handled things very differently.

According to Lizzy, she was taken aback by Tope Alabi’s actions, revealing that she had learned online that it was the caliber of people at her party that caused the singer to refuse to step out of her car.

Lizzy described those present as her loved ones, who took time out of their busy schedules to celebrate with her.

“If it were me, I would never act like that,” Lizzy continued, implying that she would never have turned down a performance or walked away under similar circumstances.

The actress also commented on the reported N3.5 million fee, clarifying that Tope Alabi was paid N3.5 million.

Lizzy pointed out, “Do you know how many people that money would help in a general hospital?”

She stressed the importance of using such a large sum of money wisely, especially when it could benefit those in need.

OSUN DEFENDER earlier reported that Dr. Oreofe Williams, a Nigerian filmmaker and author, had weighed in on the controversy, offering a different perspective.

According to Williams, the N3.5 million figure reported in the media was incorrect.

He clarified that N2.5 million was the actual amount paid to Tope Alabi’s team, after a 70% price reduction was applied at his request.

Williams explained that he had facilitated the arrangement and was surprised that the identity of the celebrant, Lizzy Anjorin, was withheld until the Alabis arrived at the venue.

Williams also mentioned that Tope Alabi and her team felt manipulated, which led to their decision to return the money and leave the event.
