A 22-year-old man, Opeyemi Mohammed who allegedly brought soldiers to disrupt the peace of students on the Campus of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, was on Friday, paraded by the police in the state.
Mohammed was also alleged to belong to an unlawful secret group.
The suspect who is a fresh graduate of the institution during an interview with Osun Defender confessed to being the leader of Buccaneers confraternity in the school.
He however said even with his arrest, he did not for once regret joining the cult group, adding that the group has impacted positively in his life.
He said he joined the cult group because of their yellow colour dressing code.
He said, “I never regret my action because it has impacted my life I joined them because I loved their yellow dress code.
“I was arrested for bringing soldiers to the school on the day of our sign-out.
“The soldiers were my friends from Lagos state they only came to felicitate with me.
“I never killed before and I have never been caught engaging in violence. I was one of the public figures in school we never killed before I was defending my project when they arrested me.
“Those soldiers did not come to threaten anyone they only came to felicitate with me.”
The State Commissioner of Police, Isyaku Muhammed while briefing the press said the suspect was arrested on campus on November 7, 2023.
He said ” On 7th November 2023 at about 10:30 am, upon information received that, some hoodlums suspected to be members of Buccaneer confraternity led by Mohammed Opeyemi, the leader of the notorious and deadly group also known as Alora Confraternity invaded the Iree Polytechnic Campus during the signing out of the Students with Military Uniform and disturbed the peace of the Campus and the entire town.
“However, on 30th November 2023 at about 13:30 am, the suspect was apprehended by men of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad at Iree on a tip-off. Suspect confessed to the crime and he will be charged to court.”
