The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed widespread speculations that he collapsed last week, describing the claims as politically motivated fabrications designed to distract him from his mandate.

Wike, who addressed journalists in Abuja on Thursday after inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT, including the International Conference Centre (ICC), insisted that the rumours were the handiwork of desperate political actors seeking to create unnecessary panic.

“The day Mr President broke Iftar during his birthday, I was there. The next day, I led Abuja residents to pay Sallah homage. How can someone who allegedly collapsed be engaging in such activities?” Wike queried.

Mocking those peddling the falsehood, the FCT Minister stated emphatically that he remained in good health and had no time for baseless distractions.

“I see all those stories. This is politics, but we have thick skin, so those things don’t bother us. We are never distracted but focused on our jobs,” he said.

Wike further expressed gratitude to concerned Nigerians who reached out over the viral rumours but urged people not to wish ill health upon others.

“We know that we will all die one day. Nobody will remain in this world forever, but it is only God that will determine the day. People should not wish their fellow human beings such things,” he added.

In a swipe at his detractors, Wike declared that he was healthier than most of them and would be the one writing their condolence letters in the future.

The rumours, which gained traction on social media platform X, alleged that Wike had collapsed at an event in Abuja last Friday and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

However, the Minister’s appearance at a Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa days later put paid to the claims, as he was seen in high spirits.

His media aide, Lere Olayinka, had earlier dismissed the speculations as baseless, urging Nigerians to ignore the mischief-makers.
