Ibas Reverses Fubara’s Decision, Approves 10,000 Civil Service Jobs
Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has approved the recruitment of 10,000 graduates and non-graduates into the state civil service, reversing the decision made by suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who had earlier cancelled the plan.
Fubara, upon assuming office, cancelled the recruitment exercise approved by his predecessor, stating that a fresh process would be carried out to ensure fairness and transparency.
Before leaving office, former Governor Nyesom Wike had ordered the immediate employment of thousands of youths to fill vacancies across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.
Despite Fubara’s cancellation, Ibas has now reinstated the controversial recruitment, leading to renewed political tensions in the state.

The decision has raised questions about the motivations behind the move, with critics accusing Ibas of overstepping his role and exacerbating existing political divisions.
While the details of the recruitment process, including criteria and timelines, have not been disclosed, the announcement has added to the growing controversy surrounding the Sole Administrator’s actions.
This move follows Ibas’ earlier controversial appointments of administrators for the 23 Local Government Areas.
The decision to proceed with the recruitment, despite the previous cancellation, is likely to further stir debate over the governance of Rivers State under Ibas.
