Ido-Osun Monarch Condemns Attack On Colleague By Irate Youths

The Olojudo of Ido-Osun, Oba Oyetunde Jokotola has condemned the recent attacks on the Ajeniju of Hallelujah, Oba Jelil Olaiya and the burning of his palace.

Osun Defender had earlier reported that crisis erupted in the Hallelujah community in Egbedore local government area of Osun State on Friday, as enraged residents beat Olaiya while attempting to conduct jumat service in the area.

The Ajeniju, who was installed by the Timi of Ede a few months ago, against the will of the Ido-Osun community, was beaten to a pulp by angry youths, saying he had no right to install a chief Imam in the community.

It was gathered that the monarch had last week turbaned one Ahmad Tijjani as Chief Imam of the Hallelujah community, but while gathering some people at his palace to observe jumat prayer, some youth allegedly from Ido-Osun invaded the palace and disrupted the exercise.

Some of the aggrieved youths while shouting at the monarch queried his authority to install and conduct jumat prayer in a domain belonging to a separate monarch.

The mob beat the monarch seriously and vandalised the palace before security operatives could intervene in the situation.

Reacting to the incident in a statement personally signed by him, the Olojudo commended the governor Ademola Adeleke for his swift action.

He, therefore, urged interested parties in the matter to remain calm and allow security personnel to do their work.

He said, “The attack on the Ajeniju of Hallelujah, Oba Jelil Olaiya, has become a source of concern for the Olojudo’s Palace, well-meaning indigenes and all the peace-loving people of Ido-Osun, Osun State.

“I commend our esteemed Governor, Senator Ademola Jackson Adeleke, for taking prompt action. His Excellency’s swift action further reinforces his zero tolerance for violence.

“I join the Governor in condemning the attack which was a breach of peace and an unacceptable approach to expressing grievances.

“I want to assert that the palace of the Olojudo of Ido-Osun is in full support of the Governor’s efforts to ensure that the peace in Ido-Osun is not upturned.

“My subjects are peace-loving and law-abiding as confirmed in the ever peaceful environment enjoyed in the town by both indigenes and other residents.

“I, therefore, call on all interested parties in the matter to remain calm and allow security personnel do their work. I urge the youths particularly to cooperate with the police and maintain the peace that reigns in Ido-Osun. Nobody should take laws into their hands.

“Let all aggrieved persons go through the right and peaceful channels in registering their concerns.

“All residents are bound by the law of the land, and we must avoid actions that can harm our neighbours or disrupt economic activities in our dear town.

“I assure all interested parties that justice will be served. Let us all work with the government on this matter.

“Hoodlums from neighbouring towns are hereby warned to stay away from Ido-Osun.
I will also not allow unnecessary exploitation of law-abiding estate developers in the name of ‘Omo onile’ (children of land owners).

“All forms of criminality are unacceptable in Ido-Osun. May all continue to prosper in Ido-Osun.”
