RESIDENTS of Kajola in Ife Central Local Government Area of the State of Osun have called on the State Government to come to their aid over the deplorable networking roads in the area.
This is just as they lamented the hardship motorists and other road users have been facing since the bridge on one of the roads collapsed.
According to the residents, the bad roads had become death traps to their users.ย
They claimed that no fewer than two road users had died after their vehicle and motorcycle fell inside a ditch.
In an interview with newsmen, the traditional ruler of the area, Oba Olusegun Taiwo Makinde, Olu of Kajola, Akile Eleweran, disclosed that a driver and a commercial motorcycle rider fell inside the ditch and died in March, this year.
Oba Makinde said armed robbers have been taking advantage of the poor roads to rob motorists and passengers, saying it was high time the state government rose to their rescue.
The monarch said the road between Ooni Layout and Eleweran area is in a deplorable condition with craters that have been causing accidents.
According to him, โsome suspected Fulani men have been robbing people using the road. This Ede road has become a death trap for all of us living in the area.
โThere is no road for us to pass again. It is affecting our journey in this area. Most commercial drivers refuse to enter our community because of bad roads. They prefer taking Ibadan road and we have to spend extra money to get home.
โThe state government should come to our aid. This bridge is old and it has collapsed. We have to show danger signs by tying a rope around it. Notwithstanding, motorists, who are new in the area, have been falling into the ditch there.
โAt least, two persons died in March this year on the collapsed bridge. Some people now take advantage of the bad road to rob motorists and commuters. Government should come to our aid,โ
