Ifon, Ilobu Communities Sign Peace Pact And Other Trending Osun News

1: Communal Clash: 24 Hours Curfew Continues As Ifon, Ilobu Signs Peace Agreement

The Osun state government on Saturday, said it has signed a peace agreement with leaders of Ifon and Ilobu communities to sheath their swords from the ongoing communal crisis between the two towns.

The state Commissioner For Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi in a statement made available to Osun Defender, however, noted that the 24-hour curfew imposed by the state government still subsist.

Osun Defender reports that the two communities have been engaging in communal clashes over a land dispute with over 8 people killed and millions of property destroyed in the process.

The statement reads in parts, “That Ifon and Ilobu Communities of Orolu and Irepodun local governments respectively have agreed to sheath their swords with immediate effect following a signed Peace Agreement to stop the communal clashes.

2: Osun PDP, APC Trades Words Over ‘Ipade Imole’

The Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress, in Osun State have traded words over the decision of the state government to go ahead with the maiden edition of the senatorial town all meeting tagged ‘Ipade Imole’.

APC accused the state governor, Ademola Adeleke of comfortably holding a programme while residents of the state were being killed in the communal clash between Ifon and Ilobu communities.

A statement by the state APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal in Osogbo on Friday, maintained that the manner the Ipade Imole programme was handled on Thursday was crude.

Responding, the Chairman of PDP in the state, Sunday Bisi, described the APC as shameful, advising the APC Chairman to desist from constantly embarrassing the state with his rudderless opinion about governance.

He said, “Governor Adeleke’s remarks at the meeting on the communal crisis in the Ifon-Ilobu area shed light on the depth of concern he holds for the affected communities. He immediately called a meeting with the two communities.
