Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced a relaxation of the dusk-to-dawn curfew earlier imposed on the crisis-prone communities of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun, following what he described as a “near total return to peace” in the affected areas.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that the curfew, which previously ran from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am daily, will now commence at 9:00 pm and end by 5:00 am, beginning on Sunday, May 25.

The decision comes as part of efforts to ease movement for residents, particularly with the approaching Eid El Kabir festivities.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the governor expressed satisfaction with the gradual return of normalcy in the communities after months of tension and violence.

However, Governor Adeleke did not mince words as he cautioned traditional rulers in the three towns against allowing any breach of peace in their domains.

He warned that any monarch whose subjects are found instigating fresh violence would be held accountable and face the full wrath of the law.

“Following near total return to peace in the warring communities of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun, it gladdens my heart as the Chief Security Officer of Osun State to direct that the hitherto 6pm to 6am curfew will now be between 9pm to 5am daily, with effect from tomorrow,” the statement read in part.

The governor also ordered that security agencies, including the Army, Police, DSS, and NSCDC, maintain 24-hour surveillance across the affected communities to ensure continued peace and stability.

Adeleke extended goodwill to Muslim faithful across the state ahead of the Eid celebrations, urging residents of the affected towns to sustain the peace and avoid any act capable of disrupting communal harmony.
