The ancient cities of Ile-Ife and Modakeke, Osun State have recorded their first rainfall in the year following a downpour in some areas of the towns.
The rain, which started at about 1am on Tuesday in some areas, lasted for 1hr in some areas such as Ede Road, Mayfair, Omole Estate, Lagere, Alapata, Ondo Road, among others.
The rain was heavy in some areas and fell without storm and thunder and there was no report of any destruction of property.
Mr. Abdullahi Orazakin, who resides at the Omole Estate area of Ife East, described the rainfall as a welcome development and great relief.
“I’m so glad to witness the first rainfall of the year as the weather has not been so friendly for some time now. And I believe the rains will usher in a more favourable weather”, she stated.
Also speaking, Mr. Tunde Odeyemi said that the prevailing dusty weather would soon give way because the rain serves as a signal to farmers to begin land clearing”, he added.
