Ilobu Community Seeks Tinubu’s Intervention Over Attacks from Ifon-Osun, Erin-Osun

The Ilobu community in Osun State has cried out to President Bola Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director General of the Department of State Services, Adeola Ajayi, over what it describes as incessant attacks from neighbouring Ifon-Osun and Erin-Osun, leading to multiple deaths, injuries, and destruction of properties worth over N2 billion.

In a statement signed by Pastor Olufemi Salako, National President of the Ilobu Development Union (IDU), the community alleged that armed mercenaries from the two neighbouring towns launched coordinated attacks on Ilobu, targeting areas such as Ganga, Idire, Apiponroro, Olobu Market, and Ayedaade.

“On Friday morning, we woke up to sporadic gunshots from the people of Ifon-Osun and Erin-Osun. They invaded several parts of our community, burning houses and shops while shooting at our people,” the statement read.

According to the group, many residents sustained gunshot wounds, while women, children, and the elderly were displaced as the violence continued for over 15 hours without any intervention from security agencies.

The IDU further claimed that the ongoing crisis had displaced over 100,000 people and led to the deaths of no fewer than 30 residents in the last 18 months, with more than 100 houses burnt.

It accused the Osun State Government and security agencies of failing to act decisively, warning that intelligence reports suggest the attacks may continue.

“We call on the Federal Government to come to our succour. We are defenceless and do not know what will happen next. We also appeal to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief for affected individuals and businesses,” the statement added.

The group blamed the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Ipadeola Akinyooye, for the crisis, describing his reign as “bloody and catastrophic” and alleging that his actions are aimed at wiping out the Ilobu community.

The Ilobu community urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to intervene urgently and prevent further bloodshed.
