I’m Still in Office — Rivers LG Sole Administrator Dismisses Resignation Letter

The Sole Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State, Goodluck Iheamnacho, has denied reports that he resigned from office, insisting he remains in charge despite a letter circulating online suggesting otherwise.

During a radio interview, Iheamnacho urged the public to disregard the letter, which was dated 20th June 2025 and addressed to the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The letter stated that he was stepping down to return to the private sector and expressed gratitude to the state government and the people of Ahoada East for the opportunity to serve.

Iheamnacho, however, claimed the letter was fake and not signed by him.

He said, “I did not resign from my appointment as the sole administrator of Ahoada-East. I was attacked in my office, and the letter they brought was not signed by me. I know nothing about the letter.

“I want to tell members of the public that I did not resign as the sole administrator of Ahoada-East, and any other information aired is null and void. I am still the sole administrator of Ahoada-East.”

He alleged that hoodlums stormed his office and took away his personal belongings, including documents.

According to him, the circulating resignation letter may have originated from that incident and does not reflect his actual intentions.

However, the Chief Security Officer of the council, Hector Ekeakita, contradicted Iheamnacho’s version of events during another radio interview.

He insisted that Iheamnacho resigned due to pressure from aggrieved youths of the council, not because of any attack.

He said, “He (Iheamnacho) was not attacked by thugs. Let’s tell Nigerians the truth, those were Ahoada-East youths who came in their mass to tell him, ‘please, our brother, you are siphoning money. Just two months in office, you have decided not to take care of our environment.’

“They said he should tell them why the LGA is dirty. No staff come to work. And he stays in Port Harcourt to administer his administration. So the youths were angry and they blocked him, so with that pressure he said he does not want to do it again.”

Iheamnacho was among 23 sole administrators appointed across Rivers State by the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.), following a recent shake-up in local government leadership.
