The Elders Council of the All Progressives Congress in Imo State on Wednesday endorsed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to withhold the certificate of return of the state Governor, Rochas Okorocha, in respect of the Imo South senatorial election.
The council, however, resolved to support the party’s governorship candidate, Hope Uzodinma, who had filed a petition before the state election petitions tribunal in respect of the election won by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Emeka Ihedioha.
Its positions were contained in a press statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Dr Edmund Onyebuchi, and his deputy, Chief Bernard Anyanwu.
The council appealed to the judiciary to expedite actions on the Imo North senatorial election.
It also resolved to support all the party’s candidates for the state House of Assembly elections at the tribunal.
“We wish to assert that no systematic arrangement can crush the Imo State APC either by commission or by omission,” the group said.
