IMRDF Takes Mining Campaign To Osun Assembly
By Sodiq Yusuf
The Ijesa Mineral Resources Development Forum (IMRDF) is billed to take the campaign for safe, secure and environment-friendly and sustainable mining operations in Ijesaland to the Osun State House of Assembly.
In a press release issued and signed by the Advocacy Coordinator of the group, Mr. Wale Idowu, the visit was part of efforts at continual engagement of stakeholders involved in mining and exploration activities in Ijesaland.
The development, according to Idowu, was coming on the heels of noticeable threats to life and land despoliation in the area.
Idowu said: “This effort is a culmination of series of advocacy programmes embarked upon by the forum.”
According him, the group had earlier met with the State Government through the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Charles Akinola, political and community leaders across Ijesaland on the need to evolve a developmental framework for the business of mining and stave off associated dangers to health and environment.
He said the proposed meeting has received the blessing of the House leadership and would afford a mutually beneficial approach to mining in the state.
