The state government of Osun has ordered the immediate closure of Baptist High School, Gbodofon, Osogbo, as some irate students engaged teachers in physical duel and vandalized school properties.
During an inspection tour on the school to assess the situation and level of damage caused by the rampaging students, the Commissioner for Education, Mr Folorunso Oladoyin directed that the school be closed till further notice
OsunDefender learnt that the situation caused tension in the area as the students and teachers in the school were said to have engaged in a free for all which included physical fight with those involved wielding cutlasses and sticks.
The duel according to a student who pleaded anonymity began Wednesday last week when yet to be identified students gained access to the school’s premises.
“We saw some students last week Wednesday in our school armed with machete and this made everyone to run for their lives.
“Although, hardly will a month pass that we don’t experience something like this and whenever such occurs, some of the irate students usually lock our teachers in their staff room.
“Last week Friday, they stormed our school again and some bold teachers confronted them which in turn led to the fight between the teachers and students.”
The commission who registered his dismay over the conduct of the students directed the thorough investigation of the matter pledging to bring the perpetrators to book.
Oladoyin said that the estimated cost of the damages should be determined as that concerned students be made to pay to serve as detterent to others.
