INEC Dismisses ADC’s Allegations On Osun Voter Registration Figures
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has dismissed claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that figures from the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise were “statistically implausible.”
In a statement signed by the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Musa Olurode, INEC described the allegations as unfounded and misleading.
It noted that Osun has historically recorded high levels of civic participation in voter registration, leading the country in online pre-registrations ahead of both the 2022 governorship election and the 2023 general elections.
INEC explained that online pre-registration is only the first step in the process and does not automatically confer the status of a registered voter without physical biometric capture at designated centres.
The Commission said the figures being reported reflect Osun’s history of strong civic engagement, which should be celebrated as evidence of democratic growth rather than questioned.
The Commission cautioned political parties against rushing to the media with unverified allegations, stressing that such actions undermine the credibility of the electoral process. Instead, it urged parties to focus on sensitising and mobilising eligible Nigerians to take part in the CVR.
