Insecurity: FCT Police Arrest 307 Suspects In Abuja, Recover Weapons
At least 307 suspected criminals were arrested on Monday by police personnel of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, for various criminal offences in the territory.
A statement issued on Monday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, who was recently deployed to the nation’s capital, personally led a tactical team of the Command in the operation that led to the arrest of the suspects.
According to her, the CP and the team raided a marked black spot, Gidan Dambe, in the Dei-Dei-Zuba axis and successfully arrested the assailants.
The PPRO said one of the suspects, Ibrahim Tukur, claimed to be an officer of the Department of State Service (DSS.
She stated that during a search, one English pistol with fifteen rounds of 9mm ammunition was recovered from the alleged DSS personnel.
“Other exhibits, such as motorcycles, wraps of marijuana, illicit substances, and valuables reasonably suspected to have been stolen from innocent residents, were equally recovered.
“While suspects are still undergoing screening, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, wishes to inform the members of the public of Operation Velvet, which was launched on 10/02/2024, comprising all the tactical teams of the Command to curb all forms of vehicular criminality and other crimes in the Territory,” the statement added.
