Insecurity Will Be History in Four Years, Says Speaker Abbas
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has assured Nigerians that insecurity will be a thing of the past within the next four years under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Abbas said this on Sunday in Abuja at an event organised by the office of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national youth leader. He maintained that Tinubu is determined to end the rising cases of banditry, kidnapping and terrorism troubling the nation.
“There’s no country in the world that can achieve any meaningful progress without adequate security,” Abbas said.
“The president and the national assembly, I’m sure if you observe, have worked very hard to put non-kinetic measures in place to improve security around the country. I believe within the next two years, and certainly the next four years of this administration, God willing, we will no longer be talking about insecurity.”
Abbas also promised increased budgetary allocations to education and health, crediting Tinubu’s tax reforms as a means of boosting government revenue.
”The good news today is that both the national assembly and Mr president have come up with a revolutionary initiative that, within the next one to two years, we will substantially increase the revenue profile of Nigeria several-fold,” he said.
The Speaker further described Tinubu as his mentor, noting that their relationship has spanned over four decades.
“Asiwaju is one of my role models because of his antecedents in supporting people right from the time he was a senator to governor. He is still with many of them after 40 years. Not too many Nigerians can sustain relationships that long,” Abbas said.
He added that the national assembly would continue to support the president in driving development across the country.
