IPAC Warns Political Parties To Ignore OSIEC’s Directives On Submission Of Details

The Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, in Osun State, Hon. Wale Adebayo has warned political parties in the state not to forward their details to the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).

The OSIEC Chairman, Barrister Hashim Abioye, had on Tuesday issued a directive to political parties in the state, to furnish the commission with information about their parties.

In a statement signed by the IPAC Chairman and issued by the Secretary, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Wednesday, the council said the OSIEC Chairman, Abioye, erred in asking for details of political parties he has not met nor discuss with.

Adebayo explained that OSIEC should have gone through the proper channels and followed the correct procedures before making the request, stressing that his members will not comply till the proper thing is done.

The statement said, “The release of electoral guidelines through newspaper publications, coupled with the request for details of our national chairmen for a local election, is not only insulting, but also a clear indication that he lacks capacity to conduct a credible election.

“The Chairman hasn’t called for a meeting to familiarize himself with chieftains and stakeholders of each political parties. OSIEC has no jurisdiction to ask for particulars of political party. There should be a stakeholders meeting between the Chairman and political parties. Apparently, he is too lazy to do that.

“Leadership of a political structure requires learning. He should go and learn. Even in a military government, there are still consultations, this is democracy for crying out loud. We see him as a political neophyte who doesn’t understand the office he was assigned to superintendent,” Osun IPAC stressed.
