‘Is He A Minister?’, Reactions As Sanwo-Olu Greets Oyetola On Birthday
Reactions have trailed a congratulations message posted by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in honour of the 70th birthday of Mr Gboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.
Osun Defender noted that many Nigerians used the post to voice their dissatisfaction with the Minister’s performance in office.
Sanwo-Olu had posted a heartfelt birthday message to Oyetola on Instagram on Sunday, praising him as a “seasoned technocrat” and “visionary leader.”

While the birthday wishes were meant to celebrate Oyetola’s milestone, they instead sparked a wave of criticism from Nigerians questioning his effectiveness as a minister.
Several social media users who commented under the post expressed disappointment over what they perceived as Oyetola’s lack of impact in the Marine and Blue Economy sector since his appointment.
Comments flooded Instagram, with users asking, “Abeg wetin this man don do since he became a minister?” and criticizing the Ministry for failing to create significant employment opportunities or contribute to economic growth.
Others reminded Oyetola of his perceived underperformance during his time as governor of Osun State, with some pointing out that his successor appeared to be more proactive. User @muhyienergyltd remarked, “I’ve never heard of this ministry doing anything since this man became Minister.”
Despite the heavy criticism, some users continued to offer their birthday wishes to Oyetola, with one comment humorously stating, “Happy birthday, sir. But you need to rest now and enjoy your life.”
However, the majority of responses centred on questioning his ministerial achievements, suggesting that his leadership has failed to live up to the praise.
