Islamisation Agenda: NSCIA Debunks False Claims Against Sultan Of Sokoto

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has strongly refuted a viral claim circulating on social media, which falsely attributes an Islamisation agenda statement to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the council’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, Imam Haroun Muhammad Eze, the NSCIA described the allegation as “spurious, baseless, and malicious,” stressing that it was a deliberate attempt to stir unnecessary religious tension in the country.

The council made it clear that the Sultan, the spiritual leader of Muslims in Nigeria, had been out of the country for the past two weeks and could not have made the purported remarks.

“The Sultan, who was purported to have made the statement, has been out of the country for the past two weeks,” the statement read.

The NSCIA further noted that the Muslim community in Nigeria, under the leadership of the Sultan, consists of people from various ethnic backgrounds, making it irrational to suggest that he would make such a divisive statement.

“Ordinarily, we would not respond to such blatant falsehood, but given the potential of misinformation to mislead unsuspecting individuals, it is necessary to set the record straight,” the council stated.

The body condemned the spread of fake news, urging Nigerians to be wary of disinformation designed to create religious animosity and destabilise the country.

“The claim is nothing but an attempt by mischief makers to incite unrest by pushing the widely debunked propaganda of Islamising Nigeria,” the NSCIA added.

The council called on Nigerians to verify information before sharing it and warned against the dangers of spreading unverified claims that could threaten national unity.
