The Ministry of Interior has introduced sweeping reforms as it concerns passport application and issuance.
To this end, May 31st has been set as target date for the clearance of the backlog of passport applications and issuance by the Minister, Rauf Aregbesola.
Aregbesola also promised to work with strategic agencies to see that migration is profitable to the migrant and to the country of stay and homeland.
The minister made this clear on Friday when Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and the management staff of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission visited him in his office in Abuja. Dabiri is the Chairman/CEO of the commission.
In his speech, Aregbesola applauded the leadership effort of Dabiri and her team in NIDCOM. He emphasized that with the effort of NIDCOM there is now a strong and worthy engagement with Nigerians in Diaspora.
He also promised that the issue of African diaspora whose forebears were taken away as slaves and who had done their DNA which identified them as Nigerians and is requesting Nigerian citizenship will be looked into.
