A student of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir, has denied involvement in the events that led to the arrest of a suspect, Olatunji Damilola.
Damilola, 20, was recently arrested and paraded with arms by the Osun State Police Command with reports in some quarters alleging that the suspect was an aide to Emir.
But a statement by Emir’s media team, a copy obtained by Osun Defender on Friday, said linking the suspect to him was a political agenda aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
He further asserted that he believes the suspect, Olatunji Damilola was coerced into making false confessions against him, in a bid to vilify him.
The statement reads “As the media team representing Olalekan Oyeyemi, widely known as Emir, we feel compelled to address recent events involving Olatunji Damilola’s arrest, which has garnered attention from the public and the media.”
“Emir wants to make it unequivocally clear that he sees these developments as part of a broader political agenda aimed at tarnishing his reputation. He firmly denies any involvement in the alleged activities and believes that Olatunji Damilola has been coerced into making false confessions in an attempt to vilify him.
“Despite these challenges, Emir remains resolute in his dedication to the betterment of our state. He stands firm in his belief that the police should conduct thorough investigations without succumbing to pressures or manipulations aimed at advancing personal or political interests.
“Emir urges the authorities to uphold the principles of fairness and justice, emphasizing the importance of conducting investigations with diligence and impartiality. He condemns any attempts to exploit individuals for political gain and calls for unity and integrity in our pursuit of truth and justice.
“We ask for your continued support and understanding as we navigate through these trying times. Emir remains steadfast in his commitment to serving the community and defending his integrity against baseless accusations.”
