….You Remain Impeached, Govt Replies Dep Gov

The reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, on Friday, said he has resumed work from home ‘to prevent any confrontation.

Shaibu also said all his staff would resume, adding that their salaries and entitlements would be paid in full.

“I have resumed, recalled all my staff and I will be working from home in order to prevent any confrontation. I remain the deputy governor. All salary and entitlement will be paid,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Edo State government has insisted that Shaibu remains impeached.

A day after, the Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, in a statement on Friday, emphasised that Shaibu remained impeached pending the outcome of the appeal.

He stated, “The filing of a stay of execution in response to a court order means that the status quo is maintained. Therefore, Philip Shaibu remains impeached as the Deputy Governor of Edo State until the Appeal Court decides otherwise.”

Obaseki’s administration maintained that Shaibu’s reinstatement was invalid pending the appeal, while Shaibu insisted on his legal right to resume office.
