Iwo Flood: Adeleke Sympathises With Victims, Orders Assessment
Following the heavy downpour which occurred on Friday in Iwo, the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the State Emergency Management Agency to visit the town and conduct a damage assessment.
This was disclosed in a Facebook post by the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Olufemi Oroniyi.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that a torrential downpour, which lasted hours, caused havoc in some areas in Iwo, with residents still counting their losses.
Some of the areas mostly affected by the rain, which led to flooding, include: Yafoye, Oke-Afo, Agoro, and Alawe.
Oroniyi further said Adeleke ordered the Ministry of Environment to expand rivers across the state to bring the water level down and forestall such occurrences.
He wrote, “The Governor, Asiwaju Ademola Adeleke was deeply concerned about the unfortunate incident where properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
“Consequently, the Governor has ordered the Ministry of Environment to further expand our Rivers to bring the water level down and forestall such occurrences.
“Also, he mandated the Osun State Emergency Management Agency to visit Iwo and assess the extent of damage and recommend possible intervention from the government.”
