Iwo Indigenes Seek Govt’s Intervention On Collapsed Culvert

Kazeem Badmus

INDIGENES of Iwo under the aegis of Iwoland Indigenes Council of Nigeria (IICN) has sought the intervention of the State Government of Osun to fix the Oke-Ola-Bukusoro-Aipate Culvert in the town.

The culvert, according to them, caved in due to downpour few weeks ago.

IICN, in a letter dated May 9, 2022 and signed by the Coordinator, Sola Isola, alerted the local government on the urgent need to fix the culvert to avert impending casualties.

A copy of the letter was sent to the Chairman of Iwo East Local Council Development Area.

The group, in a press statement on Tuesday, called on the state government to take prompt action to fix the damage culvert, saying the local government has disclosed that the project was beyond what the council could handle.

The statement reads: “We are using this opportunity to call on the State Government of Osun to take prompt action on the request by the Iwo East LCDA and by extension the people of Iwoland to fix the Okeola-Bokusoro-Aipate culvert that caved in due to heavy rainfall few weeks ago. Up till the time of this release, nothing has been done about it.

“IICN have written the local government and they have confirmed to us that it is beyond the capacity of the local government, so they have written the state government through the Ministry of Works.

“We want this serve as a reminder to the ministry of works that the broken culvert along Okeola-Bokusoro-Aipate still remains there undone. Businesses and residents of that area are suffering as a result of this. Action has to be taken as soon as possible”.
