The Osun State House of Assembly Adhoc Committee on the rehabilitation of tbe Iwo/Osogbo road has expressed dissatisfaction with the level of work done so far, calling on the construction firm handling the project to fast track work on it considering the economic importance of the road.
The Committee led by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Akinyode Oyewusi, had on Monday visited the site of the road as part of oversight function, saying the visits of the road from the Ibadan boundary in Iwo to Dele Yes Sir in Osogbo was necessitated by complaints from the people on its condition.
Two weeks ago, the Osun State House of Assembly under the leadership of Hon. Adewale Egbedun constituted an Adhoc Committee on the road after questioning the CEO of Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd at the plenary.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu quotes the the Deputy Speaker as saying the committee was at the road to inspect the level and true state of things.
“We have come to do a physical inspection of this project. As you all know that oversight is part of our constitutional duty,” he said, adding that “We have invited the Contractor to the plenary for questioning, and we have read through various reports from his company and the Ministry of Works including the contract documents. We are here today to see things as they are.”
He added that “I must say that we are not impressed at all with the level of the work done and the slow speed which is been done. This road is very critical to the economic development of our State. Once the State Capital is not accessible via good roads investors won’t come in”
The Director of Highway, Ministry of Works Engr Ojebode led other Directors at the Ministry among whom were Engr. O. Salami, Engr. Oladele, Engr. Kilani, Engr Adepoju and Ogunwuyi on the visit.
Engr. Ojebode appreciated the lawmaker for creating time to visit the Iwo/Osogbo road. He said their intervention is what has even increased the level of work done so far. He noted that the Ministry will continue to do its supervisory role to ensure that the road is delivered on time and with the required standard.
Responding to the concerns expressed by the Committee, the Project Manager, Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd, Mr. Lekan Adeleke reassured the committee that the company will deliver the road within the time frame. He affirmed that the job done is currently at 21.1%, he then promised that as we approach dry season the speed will increase and the road will be fully ready for use in about ten months.
Other Committee members present at the site are, Hon. Abiola Awoyeye, Hon. Fatunmise Olumide, Hon. Abiola Ibrahim, Hon. Adekunle Oladimeji, Hon. Olalekan Adeoti and Hon. Taofiq Olayiwola.
