Former senator representing Ogun Central, Iyabo Obasanjo, is set to rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just days after quitting the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sources close to the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo told TheCable that she has already informed key associates of her decision to return to the opposition party.

“I can confirm that Senator Iyabo Obasanjo is moving to the PDP,” a source said.

“Her political focus is firmly on Ogun State and the future direction of its governance.”

According to insiders, preparations are underway for a joint rally involving Iyabo and former federal lawmaker Oladipupo Adebutu, scheduled for June 16 at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta.

“I am informed that while it may take that route, the plan is for a joint Obasanjo/Adebutu rally, involving the senate and governorship campaigns,” another source added.

Iyabo Obasanjo was first elected to the Senate in 2007 on the PDP platform, where she chaired the Senate Committee on Health, before losing her re-election bid in 2011.

Her expected return to the PDP comes shortly after her resignation from the APC, following her loss in the party’s governorship ticket process in Ogun State.

She had joined the APC in February 2026 and declared interest in the governorship race, but later stepped down after the party adopted Senator Solomon Adeola as its consensus candidate for the 2027 election.

In her resignation letter, she accused the party leadership of disrespect and alleged that agreements were breached, adding that some of her supporters were barred from accessing the venue where the consensus arrangement was concluded.
