The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Abdulazeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has again moved to challenge the verdict of the Lagos State Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Adediran, together with his party the PDP in the move filed an appeal before the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.
OSUN DEFENDER learnt that the appeal which contained 34 grounds, was submitted on October 13, marking an explicit expression of dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s decision.
Reackk that the tribunal had reaffirmed Governor Sanwo-Olu’s election on September 25, but Adediran is not backing down.
He alleges a miscarriage of justice and is urging the Court of Appeal to set aside the judgment, citing errors in law and incorrect conclusions made by the tribunal regarding Sanwo-Olu’s qualification for the March 18 governorship election.
This challenge is based on the provisions of Section 177(c) and 182(1)(j) of the Nigerian Constitution.
Adediran stated, “By this action, I reaffirm my commitment to give a breath of fresh air in governance in Lagos State by ensuring that the provisions of the constitution and the electoral laws as regards the election of a truly qualified governor are upheld.”
This legal battle intensifies the political landscape in Lagos, as the tribunal had earlier dismissed Adediran’s petition, as well as that of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, challenging Sanwo-Olu’s election.
The tribunal upheld Governor Sanwo-Olu’s election, asserting that the challenges to his nomination by the All Progressives Congress (APC) were pre-election issues unrelated to the conduct of the election itself.
Mikhail Abdullahi, a member of the tribunal panel, emphatically declared, “I affirmed the election of Sanwo-Olu Babajide Olushola as the duly elected governor of Lagos state, Nigeria.”
This ongoing legal contest ensures that the political drama in Lagos State remains at the forefront of public attention.
