In a landmark decision on Friday, the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence court sentenced Feyi Daniels, the founder of iReign Christian Ministry, to life imprisonment for the grave charges of “raping a church member.”
The trial judge, Rahman Oshodi, unequivocally found the Lagos-based cleric guilty of rape and sexual assault against a female worshipper within the precincts of his church in 2020.
This report by Osun Defender delves into the significant timelines associated with the distressing rape incidents involving the young pastor.
Before the life imprisonment verdict, Daniels faced allegations of raping an assistant female pastor at his residence in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
The victim, whose name is withheld, was originally based in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, but was summoned to the Lagos headquarters of the church where the harrowing incident occurred.
According to the victim, Daniels subjected her to punishment for missing a meeting, directing her to his Lekki house for disciplinary action.
Upon arrival, he further ordered her to undress, ostensibly for a beating. Shockingly, she narrated,
“The following day, we were in the sitting room listening to a pastor’s message when he said I should go naked again. I did, and surprisingly, he also went naked and raped me for about 30 minutes till I started bleeding because of the tears I sustained despite not being a virgin.”
The victim reported the case in 2022 at the FCID Alagbon, Lagos, leading to the subsequent arrest of Pastor Daniels.
In March 2023, the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Ministry of Justice, issued an order for Daniels’ arraignment concerning the alleged rape of an assistant pastor and another lady associated with the church.
Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, Director of the DSVRT, disclosed that three ladies were involved, with two reporting to the agency and the third to the police.
Despite the victim’s complaint, Daniels was arrested and detained for six days before being released. In April 2023, when he was expected to appear in the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, he failed to do so. Upon investigation, it was discovered that Daniels had relocated without notice.
Turning the tables in his defense on October 21, 2023, Daniels testified in court, alleging that three out of the four women accusing him of sexual assault had conspired against him.
During cross-examination, the prosecution’s lead counsel, Babajide Boye, aimed to establish that Daniels, also known as Bishop Daniels, had a ‘personal relationship’ with all four women.
Today, on January 26, the court pronounced its verdict, sentencing Daniels to life imprisonment for the grave offense of “raping a church member.”
