The Nigeria Democratic Congress Party NDCP has felicitated with the family of the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola and Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s new Democracy Day.
It also congratulated the family of those honoured by the Federal Government saying it is a deserved victory for Abiola and those who fought for the Democracy, the Nigerian federation enjoys today.
The Founder and Presidential Candidate of the party, Dr Johnson Edosomwan said in a statement that the entrenchment of the day signifies the commemoration of the country’s detribalization which saw massive support for Chief Abiola in every nook and cranny of the country.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress Party however stressed that honouring the likes of Abiola, Babagana Kingibe, Chief Gani Fawehinmi and others who fought for the emancipation of June 12 does not make it uhuru until the ideals which the late MKO stood and died for is evident in our democracy.

“June 12 is historic to everyone of us. This is because it was the day True Democratic Ideals reigned supreme in the annals of Nigeria’s Political System without religious, sexual or ethnic sentiments.”
“We as a party are happy in the fact that key figures of the struggle have been recognised and honoured as icons of our democracy. We congratulate Nigerians on this feat. “
Edosomwan said “While we continue to celebrate and rejoice over June 12, there is the need to remind Nigerians of the fact that those things Abiola other Pro-Democracy actors stood for is still lacking in our political system of today. It is when government at all levels uphold these tenets that we can say our Democracy which we all suffered for is in place.”
