The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a shock defeat in the hands of the Central African Republic in their 2022 World Cup qualifier at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos today.
The match ended 1 – nil in favour of the Central African Republic.
Bookmakers had earlier predicted that the Eagles will demolish the CAR team in Lagos as they are yet to concede a goal since they started executing international matches in Sururlere.
The lone goal was scored by CAR forward Karl Nanmganda in the 91st minute, giving the CAR team their first 3 points.
The Eagles are in the first position with 6 points after three matches, with Cape Verde and the Central African Republic in 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
Liberia remains at the bottom of the group with 3 points after they also suffered a home defeat in the hands of Cape Verde.
The Eagles will travel to the Central African Republic for the second leg on Sunday.
