JUST IN: ISWAP Abducts 13 Teenage Girls in Borno
Members of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) have kidnapped 13 teenage girls in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Askira, confirmed the abduction, saying the victims were seized while working on their farmland in Mussa district.
Abdullahi, who represents Askira-Uba constituency, said the girls, aged between 15 and 20, had gone to their farms to harvest crops when the assailants struck.
He noted that both Huyim and Mussa are farming communities, but residents of Huyim were relocated to Mussa due to security concerns.
“The victims are among those relocated to the relatively peaceful Mussa community to engage in joint farming for their livelihoods. One of the girls managed to escape and was reunited with her family on Sunday morning. However, the remaining 12, mostly aged 15 to 20, are still in the custody of the abductors, whose location remains unknown,” he said.
In reaction, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) who represents the area urged security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure the safe return of the victims.
He called on residents to continue praying for the girls’ release while providing authorities with timely information on any suspicious movements in their communities.
