Justice Olukayode Ariwoola on Thursday retired as the 22nd Chief Justice of Nigeria upon the attainment of 70 years.
Osun Defender recalls that Ariwoola was elevated to the bench of the Supreme Court on 22 November 2011 and was appointed substantive chief justice of Nigeria on 27 June 2022.
His appointment as CJN followed the resignation of Justice Tanko Muhammad.
Justice Ariwoola was formally confirmed chief justice by the Nigerian Senate on 21 September 2022.
Meanwhile, the National Judicial Council(NJC) presided over Ariwoola had recommended Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for appointment as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria.

This was disclosed in a statement published on the NJC website on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
Apart from the new CJN recommendation, the council as also recommended twenty-seven (27) candidates for appointment as Judges of States Courts and a candidate for appointment as Kadi of the Sharia Court of the FCT, Abuja to their various State Governors and President.
