Justice Prevails As Man Who Burnt Lover To Death Is Jailed
The High Court in Johannesburg has found Sandile Mantsoe guilty of killing his former girlfriend, Karabo Mokoena, 22 last year.
Recall that he was accused of burning Mokoena and dumping the body in Lyndhurst.
In a statement read out in court previously, Mantsoe claimed Mokoena used to beat him up and that she became angry and depressed after she was raped by the friend of a former lover.
He also alleged that Mokoena used to cut herself and that her sister had witnessed this.
Mantsoe who according to reports in a married father of three, had reportedly been in a romantic relationship with Mokoena since October 2016. It is believed that he and his wife were estranged.
In his ruling on Wednesday, Judge Peet Johnson found that the State managed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he had murdered Mokoena and burnt her body to try and destroy the evidence.
“That the deceased did not have a tendency to commit suicide, did not attempt it, did not commit it and that the accused killed her.”
The judge also found Mantsoe guilty of defeating the ends of justice and of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
